A special court for cases against MP and MLAs in Chennai convicted actor couple Ramanathan Sarathkumar and Radhika and one more person in a 2018 cheque bounce case and sentenced them to one-year rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday. In addition, the court has also imposed a penalty of Rs. 5 crores in connection with the case.
The case pertains to Radiance Media Private Ltd. Moving filing a plea alleging that Magic Frames company, where Sarathkumar, Radhika and Listin Stephen are partners, had borrowed Rs. 1.50 crore and had issued two cheques. Subsequently, Sarath had taken another loan of Rs. 50 lakhs from Radiance Media and in return, he had issued five cheques for Rs. 10 lakh each. When the cheques were presented for realisation, they all bounced.

Chennai, April 7 : Actor-turned-politician R. Sarathkumar and his actor-producer Radhikaa were sentenced to a one-year jail term by a special court here in a cheque bouncing case.
A firm Magic Frames in which Sarathkumar a former law maker, Radhikaa and Listin Stephen had borrowed Rs.1.5 crore from Radiance Media in 2014.
Sarathkumar had also borrowed Rs.50 lakh from Magic Frames.
The cheques issued by Sarathkumar as repayment of the loan bounced and hence the case.
Hearing the case, the special court sentenced Sarathkumar, Radhikaa and Stephen for one year jail term.

On April 7, The Special Court convicted actors and politicians, Sarathkumar, Radikaa and producer Listin Stephen in a cheque bounce case. The court also sentenced Sarathkumar and Radikaa to one-year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 5 crore in connection with the case. Radiance Media Private Ltd had filed a plea against the couple in 2018.

Tamil actor Sarathkumar and wife Radhika received a setback from a special court in Chennai in connection with a cheque bounce case. Both Sarath and Radhika are sentenced to one year imprisonment in this case.
Going into details, Sarathkumar, his wife Radhika and a third person are partners of Magic Frames production house. This banner had borrowed huge amount of money from Radiance Media Private Limited, a money lending firm for production of movies based out in Chennai.
Having failed to make the repayment and the cheques handed over from Magic Frames to Radiance Media, bounced. In 2017, Radiance Media dragged Sarathkumar, Radhika and the third person to the court. Criminal proceedings were imposed in this case and in 2019, Sarathkumar and Radhika approached the Madras High Court seeking squash of this case. But the court declined.

The Additional Special Court for Trial of cases related to Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, on Wednesday sentenced Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader Sarath Kumar and his actor-wife Radhikaa Sarath Kumar to one year rigorous imprisonment, in each of seven cheque bounce cases filed separately against them, and also directed them pay ₹3.3 crore as compensation to the complainant. The sentence will run concurrently.
