Railways freight revenue hits record Rs18.76bn in FY21 - Newspaper

Dawn, shows that PR’s Karachi division, which has been entrusted with the management of freight trains, generated an all-time high freight revenue of Rs18.76bn in FY21 and surpassed the collection of Rs17.75bn achieved in FY19.
The cumulative tonnage loaded in all freight wagons during FY21 stood at 6.40 million tonnes, which is the highest since FY94, while surpassing the previous best of 6.321m tonnes in FY19. In addition, Karachi division loaded 215,291 freight wagons during FY21 unmatched since FY94 against the previous highest of loading 214,792 wagons during FY18.

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Azam Khan Swati held a press conference at the divisional superintendent’s office at the City Railway Station here on Saturday where he revealed that Pakistan Railways’ freight volume will be doubled very soon.
According to the minister, at present the annual freight revenue of Pakistan Railways is Rs11 billion and that would be doubled. “If I cannot expand freight service, then Railways will break up and crumble,” said the minister as he promised to enhance the Railways’ freight earnings. ....

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Azam Khan Swati on Thursday directed that Pakistan Railways (PR) freight wagons in need of necessary repair work and currently gathering dust and rust in the yards must be repaired at the earliest.
In a meeting with the top management of PR and Karachi division’s officers, the minister said he wanted maximum rolling stock to be utilised. “Though PR had climaxed to the highest freight revenue earning of Rs2.221 billion and loaded an unprecedented number of 21,766 wagons during last month, these figures are below the potential of this department and lag behind my target,” he remarked. ....
