The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for three districts of Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Mandous was inching closer to the state. Red alert has been issued for Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu. �� Cyclone Mandous Update: IMD Issues Red Alert in 3 Tamil Nadu Districts, Orange Alert in 6; Heavy Rain Likely on December 9 and 10.

On Sunday, there will be significant rainfall in a number of southern states; after that, IMD predicts that there will be less rainfall.

Rainfall alert: The festive season of Diwali and Bhai Dooj is likely to turn out to be a rainy one, thanks to the low-pressure system over the Andaman Sea, which is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm. Several eastern states including West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, North East are predicted to experience heavy rainfall. 

Schools in several districts of Uttar Pradesh will remain shut today due to heavy rainfall alerts.

The 24-hour average air quality index in the city was 48 at 4 pm. It was 56 on Saturday and 55 on Friday.
