New Delhi: CSIR’s new entity, the CSIR-National Institute of Science communication and Policy Research (NIScPR)), New Delhi, organized a half-day online session on COVID-19 in children yesterday (04 June 2021). The session was focused on the recent second wave outbreak and the impact of COVID-19 on children, threats and necessary protocols required for the safety of children. The Chief Guest of the webinar was Dr. V. Vijayalakshmi; Additional Commissioner (Academics), KVS (HQ), New Delhi and the Guest speaker was Prof. Dr. R. Somasekar, Professor of Pediatrics, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hosptial (SBMCH), Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Executive Board Member 2021, Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP). The program was attended by about 150 delegates including several dignitaries, faculty members, researchers and scientists, and students from various schools through the link made available on Face Book by CSIR-NIScPR.

COVID in kids still moderate; only 1-2 pc required hospitalisation: Expert

New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Children have been only moderately affected by the novel coronavirus and only one to two per cent of those who contracted the disease required hospitalisation during the Covid pandemic outbreak 1-2 per cent had to go for hospitalization, says a senior pediatrician.

New Delhi: CSIR-National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS) organized a ceremony to bring out the outcome of IISF-2020 in the form of a scientific report “Sanklan”in New Delhi today.
On the occasion, a booklet “Sankalan” and “CSIR Compendium of Technologies-2021” were also released.
In his address, Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, DG-CSIR and Secretary DSIR, highlighted the importance of the IISF 2020. He said, “When we thought to organize IISF in pandemic time, we were not sure whether it would be fruitful. But when we moved ahead, we got the cooperation of Departments, Institutes, scientists and science lovers. And I would like to say that without the support of these people and dedicated organizers, we would not be able to succeed. He added that the ‘Sanklan’ of IISF-2020 is a document which reflects the efforts made and outcomes of this huge science festival”.

New Delhi: CSIR Institutions CSIR-NISTADS and CSIR-NISCAIR, New Delhi jointly organized a half-day session on “A Policy Dialogue on COVID-19 Vaccine from Self-Reliance to Global Leadership: Opportunities, Challenges, and Policy Imperatives in COVID Era” recently. This event was organised to celebrate the National Science Day and to have a policy discourse from eminent personalities on the journey of indigenous development of the COVID-19 vaccine in the midst of the pandemic. It focussed on the opportunities available, the challenges faced and the policy imperatives for a way forward to become a global leader not only in the COVID-19 vaccine but also in vaccines in general.

CSIR forms new institution to further strengthen science communication


Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday laid the foundation stone of
CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research, formed after the merging of CSIR-NISCAIR and CSIR-NISTADS, a step aimed at further strengthening science communication.
He said the purpose of the merger is to combine the strength of the two institutes in a synergistic way with a vision to become a globally respected think tank and resource centre for understanding Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy research and communication.
Vardhan emphasised that evidence-driven policy will play a crucial role in making "Aatma-nirbhar Bharat" a reality driven by Science and Technology, and innovation.
