The World Health Organization posted new Moderna COVID-19 vaccine guidance Tuesday, including a recommendation for pregnant women.
While the international health organization acknowledged pregnancy puts women at a higher risk of severe COVID-19 complications, it said the vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women “unless they are at a risk of high exposure (e.g. health workers).”
The Centers for Disease Control Prevention, in conjunction with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, recommends pregnant women who are health care workers or other essential frontline workers receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, pregnant women were not included in either the Pfizer or Moderna clinical trials.
