Travel News - 'Tourism activities in Goa must resume after total vaccination'

‘Tourism activities in Goa must resume after total vaccination’
Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Tuesday said tourism activities should resume only after the entire population of the coastal state is completely vaccinated against COVID-19. While the Goa government has allowed hotels to function, restaurants and other tourism-related activities have been shut due to the curfew, which has been in place in the state since May 9, when COVID-19 cases started peaking.
Speaking to PTI, the Minister said only tourists who are “fully vaccinated" should be allowed to enter the state. “We can’t keep Goa’s tourism industry shut forever, as it is an important backbone of our state’s economy," Ajgaonkar said.

Vistara exploring newer avenues to supplement earnings; aims to have 70 planes by 2023: CEO
With a “nimble” approach, Vistara is focussing on a leaner cost-structure as well as exploring newer avenues to supplement earnings, its CEO Leslie Thng has said and emphasised that full-service carriers are even more relevant in the current COVID scenario.
The Delhi-based airline, which entered the domestic aviation space in January 2015, aims to have 70 planes in its fleet by 2023.
In an e-mail interaction with PTI, Thng said that full service carriers look to be relevant more in the current scenario due to less density of seats in the cabins.

Travel News - Domestic passenger traffic declines 65-67% in May compared to April: ICRA

Domestic passenger traffic declines 65-67% in May compared to April: ICRA
By TBM Staff | Mumbai
For May 2021, India’s domestic passenger traffic is estimated at ~19-20 lakh, implying a sequential decline of ~65-67% compared to ~57.3 lakh in April 2021. With this, the domestic passenger traffic reached lower than the June-July 2020 levels. The airlines’ capacity deployment for May 2021 was lower by ~54-55% compared to April 2021 (~27,700 departures in May 2021, against ~60,300 departures in April 2021), indicating the lower demand stemming from averseness of consumers to travel due to the rise in infections.
According to Kinjal Shah, Vice President & Co-Group Head, ICRA, “For May 2021, the average daily departures were ~900, significantly lower than ~2,000 in April 2021. The average number of passengers per flight during May 2021 was 72, against an average of 93 passengers per flight in April 2021. The gradual decline depicts the continuing stress on demand, driven largely by the second wave of Covid-19, limiting travel to only necessary travel, while both leisure and business travel have been curtailed due to various state-wide restrictions and the spread of the infections.”
