Immersive A Dozen Dreams Opens at Brookfield Place in NYC May 13

Erika Dickerson-Despenza and Emily Mann
A free, immersive theatrical installation based on the pandemic-inspired dreams of 12 American playwrights debuts May 13 at Brookfield Place in downtown NYC.
A Dozen Dreams features works by Erika Dickerson-Despenza, Emily Mann, Sam Chanse, Martyna Majok, Mona Mansour, Rehana Mirza, Ellen McLaughlin, Liza Jessie Peterson, Ren Dara Santiago, Caridad Svich, Lucy Thurber, and Andrea Thome. Singer Kecia Lewis is also featured in the dream of Mann.
When the playwrights were asked to share their pandemic dreams, they answered with heartfelt and haunting stories that explore how we arrived at this moment; interrogate the political, social, and emotional unrest of our troubling times; and imagine a new and better future where our society may begin to heal and grow.

Adjust the Procedure - An Outbreak Infects Higher Education in Pandemic Drama Premiere. Spin Cycle in association with JCS Theater Company presents The World Premiere of ADJUST THE PROCEDURE, a new play by Jake Shore (The Devil Is On The Loose With An Axe In Marshalltown, Holy Moly, and Down The Mountain And Across The Stream) conceived during the pandemic and created with Zoom theater in mind. It's early Fall 2020 and the pandemic consumes a Manhattan university. In addition to tracking rising cases of COVID on campus, the school's administrators face immigration problems, suicide threats, and professors losing their minds. But in the midst of all the madness, it's the internal bureaucratic battles that threaten the school's preservation. Over the course of two conflict-ridden Zoom meetings, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE gives audiences a rare peek into the business of higher education at a moment of multiple reckonings. Written and directed by Jake Shore, ADJUST THE PROCEDURE stars Ed Altman, Adam Files, Meagan Moses, and Nicholas Miles Newton. click here

In October, New York City Center reimagined its popular Fall for Dance festival in digital form: Dancers made use of the stage of the empty theater, their performances broadcast to audiences at home. In honor of Black History Month, three of those presentations are streaming again — “Lady Swings the Blues” by the brilliant tap artist Dormeshia; Kyle Abraham’s “to be seen,” danced to Ravel’s “Boléro” by Calvin Royal III of American Ballet Theater; and “Morani/Mungu (Black Warrior/Black God)” by Jamar Roberts, a longtime member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and that company’s resident choreographer.

Hershey Felder stars as Sholem Aleichem in
Before Fiddler — Live From Florence, running for one night only on
February 7. Before the beloved musical
Fiddler on the Roof, there was Sholem Aleichem and his beloved character of "Tevye the Milkman." Before the beloved songs "Tradition," "If I Were a Rich Man," "Matchmaker," and more, there was music of the Old World ... a music that imitated talking, laughing, weeping, and singing, where musicians didn't just make music, they spoke to you in song — Klezmer. In Florence, Italy, one of the oldest artistic centers in the world, a group of such musicians have been, by day, virtuosos in Florence's world famous

Last March, Yussef El Guindi couldn't write. While the pandemic raged, the Egyptian American playwright's artistic fire smoldered—and it didn't reignite until he was asked to write a 10-minute play for students at UC Santa Barbara.
"I said, 'I'm frozen,'" he remembers. "And then a few days after that, I realized, 'It's a 10-minute play, for Christ's sake. Just write something. Anything.'"
