The most recent example of the start of a change in global finance is the biggest Australian pension fund, AustralianSuper, which has opposed the now-failed $11-billion bid for Australia’s top energy retailer, Origin Energy.
RIAA, which assessed 53 superannuation funds in its annual study, says the ten top ones “commit to good governance and accountability”.
A better focus for the ex PM would be the short-term performance test benchmarks that penalise the super industry for investments in future facing, low carbon industries.
The accelerated climate commitment is part of a push to convince shareholders to back a near-$20 billion bid being resisted by the AustralianSuper.
