Local Japanese launch YouTube channel, 'Japanese Cooking on Guam'
If there's one thing that Maho Quinene has learned in more than 25 years of living in Guam, it's that the people who live here love the food of her native Japan.
So as the pandemic drained her wholesale gift business, Guam Lovers, Quinene and her colleagues turned a hobby and passion into a business opportunity. They launched a YouTube channel, "Japanese Cooking on Guam," and are slowly building a following.
"Under pandemic, many people has time and cook at home. Basically, locals really love Japanese dishes but don't know so much how to cook, but we can teach that," she said. "This channel introduces the recipes and ingredient in English that you can get at Tokyo Mart and or at your local stores. And especially this season, Tokyo Mart carries seasonal items that you won't find any other time of the year."
