David Fletcher to stay on as a senior adviser to Crispin Odey’s $2.9bn hedge fund firm
David Fletcher is stepping down as chairman of Odey Asset Management,
Portfolio Adviser has learned.
Fletcher, who has been chairman of Crispin Odey’s eponymous boutique since 1998, will stay on as a senior adviser to the business and will continue to serve on various committees, including the executive committee, according to a spokesperson. He first joined Odey AM in 1995 as its chief executive.
Odey AM has not named a replacement chairman yet, but
Portfolio Adviser understands the firm is looking to appoint an additional senior adviser.

Odey Asset Management has quietly rebranded £1.3bn worth of funds as founder Crispin Odey prepares for his next date in court later this week,

Seven out of the hedge fund boutique’s existing 19 funds have changed their name from ‘Odey’ to ‘Brook’, referring to the new subsidiary business, Brook Asset Management, created by Odey AM last November.

Odey Asset Management has swiped emerging markets manager Sophia Whitbread from Newton Investment Management for its newly created funds business.
Whitbread (pictured) will join Brook Asset Management, launched by Crispin Odey’s eponymous funds business, in June as an assistant portfolio manager on its Global Emerging Markets strategy.
There she will be reunited with long-time Newton IM colleague Rob Marshall-Lee who was poached by Odey last November to head up its brand-new emerging markets business.

Newton IM hires Wellington manager as it seeks to rebuild UK equity income team
Ami Shah joins the UK equity income team months after Emma Mogford exits
Newton has hired Ami Shah from Wellington Management as it looks to boost its UK equity income team following the departure of Emma Mogford.
Shah was a portfolio manager and research analyst in Wellington’s value team where he helped manage $65bn (£47.5bn) worth of strategies for institutional clients.
Subject to regulatory approval, Shah will become the co-lead manager on the Newton UK Equity Income strategy and the BNY Mellon UK Income fund, on which Mogford was lead manager from November 2017 until last September.

Euan Munro will have to turn his attention to manager retention and building Newton Investment Management’s core equity and fixed interest proposition if he wants to restore the “lost” fund brand into a household investment name, commentators have said.
BNY Mellon Investment Management unveiled last week it had nabbed Aviva Investors boss Munro to take the reins of its UK funds business Newton.
Much like his arrival at Aviva Investors in 2014, the SLI Gars architect joins Newton at a crossroad for the business. The fund group has been struggling to hold onto its heavy hitters, with global income manager Nick Clay among the biggest recent casualties, and has struggled to grow assets above £45bn.
