Fábio scores in 79th, Red Bulls beat Orlando 2-1
July 4, 2021 GMT
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Fábio Roberto Gomes Netto scored in the 79th minute and the New York Red Bulls gave Orlando City its first home loss of the season, 2-1 on Saturday night.
Fábio beat the defender to Patryk Klimala’s well-placed pass into the penalty area, pulled it back to create an open look from close range and buried it into the left corner.
Cristian Cásseres Jr opened the scoring for the Red Bulls (5-5-1) in the sixth minute, turning inside to evade the defender and curling home a left-footed shot from beyond the 18-yard box.

The match, presented by OUC, in addition to being locally broadcast on FOX35 PLUS will be available to stream on LionNation TV, while being transmitted on Real Radio 104.1 in English and Acción 97.9FM, 810AM in Spanish.
“Red Bulls have a particular way to play that has been very constant for the years and Gerhard [Struber] have continued with the same structure,” said Orlando City Head Coach Oscar Pareja. “We know that, but at the same time it’s a team that has intensity and they have this initiative to play forward consistently, where they want to go and when they want to go. Sometimes they may be fragile from that intention to play forward, but they do a good job, they have a good team, we always respect the coach’s different initiatives and we try to neutralize it.”

“We’re pleased to welcome Fábio,” head of sport Kevin Thelwell told the club’s official website. “Fábio has a strong physical profile, excellent work ethic, and he’s shown that he can score and assist while playing on his own, and with another forward. We’re happy to add Fábio to our roster and look forward to integrating him into our team.”
Netto spent his youth career with Nacional and Grêmio Osasco before beginning his professional career with Grêmio Audax. In December of 2017, he joined Oeste Futebol Clube, spending 2018 on loan with local outfit Clube Atlético Carlos Renaux. During the 2019 Campeonato Brasileiro Série B season, the São Paulo native finished second in the league’s scoring charts with 15 goals in 32 matches.
