AFL 2021 Richmond Tigers' Sydney Stack to make return via VFL

DOWNLOAD
Previously, Stack and Callum Coleman-Jones received 10-match bans -- now completed -- and were sent home from the Tigers' Queensland hub after breaching the AFL's COVID-19 policies by attending a Gold Coast strip club and being involved in a fight outside a kebab shop.
Coleman-Jones has been involved in VFL practice matches but Stack will get his first minutes since that September suspension in Friday's season opener against Sandringham at Punt Road.
"(Coleman-Jones has) been playing - he's been in really good form at VFL level so once again he'll put his hand up for selection which is a positive for us," Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said. "Sydney's obviously had the limited prep with his court case in WA - so he'll play some VFL minutes this week but that will be limited."

A-League Goal of Matchweek 5 - Bruno Fornaroli

A simply sublime back-heeled goal from Perth Glory striker Bruno Fornaroli has edged out the 17 other goals scored in five fixtures to claim Goal of Matchweek 5.
The Uruguayan's inventive effort came in Glory's manic 5-4 loss to Western United at GMHBA Stadium.
An astonishing nine goals came from the contest - with eight scored in the second half - and amidst all the madness came Fornaroli's flick from a Carlo Armiento cross which left United 'keeper Filip Kurto no chance of keeping the ball out of the net.
Fornaroli ghosted between Andrew Durante and Ivan Vujica to be first on the scene when the cross came into the box; with his back to goal the 33-year-old allowed the ball to roll across his body before flicking an attempt on goal off the back of his left boot on the turn.

Team of the Week, presented by Bunnings Warehouse - Matchweek 5

Mark Birighitti – Central Coast Mariners
Birighitti has proved to be one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in the competition so far and the 29-year-old did not put a foot wrong while shutting out the Premiers to keep his third clean sheet in four games.
While he was only forced to make four saves – the highlight being a late block from substitute Jordi Swibel – Birighitti dominated his penalty area, fending off cross after cross and racing of his line to smother a number of through balls.

A-League Save of Matchweek 5 - Jack Duncan

Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan's reactive save to deny Wellington Phoenix defender Luke DeVere a powerful headed goal has been awarded the pick of the saves in Matchweek 5.
Duncan made seven stops on the day but this one was the pick of the bunch, coming in just the 12th minute as the Jets held onto a slender one-goal advantage.
DeVere did everything right with his header from a Ulises Dávila corner as he rose highest to cannon the ball toward goal with some force.
But Duncan was quick to his right, not only to get a glove on the shot, but to push it with enough strength to help the ball around the post and out for another corner.

Newcastle's luck turns in 'worst performance by a long way'

"We got into a bit of fighting, we need to show a little bit more composure when it comes.
"We had a little bit of luck tonight, which we had been missing."
Newcastle held 35% possession and were out-shot 23-11 by their opponents in Wollongong, but there still plenty of positive aspects for Deans and his charges to take.
The Jets executed two excellent counter attacks for Yuel and O'Donovan's goals and will feel they should have sealed the match with a third but could not take advantage of other chances that they forged in transition.
According to defender Nigel Boogaard, the result is all that matters.

Stajcic identifies the area that will make the Mariners a true A-League force

Jacob Windon

Alen Stajcic believes Central Coast Mariners have a long way to go before mounting a 'credible' A-League assault but is confident they will do so when the Gosford club improve their control of the ball.
The Mariners returned to the A-League summit on Friday evening with a stunning 2-0 win over reigning Premiers and Champions Sydney FC in Kogarah thanks to Ben Warland's 53rd-minute own goal and Alou Kuol's second goal of the campaign.
It was Central Coast's first win over the Sky Blues in seven years, and the club that have finished bottom of the pile for three years consecutive have now earned three wins from four matches in 2020/21 and conceded just a single goal in the process.

Brebner rues lack of cutting edge after Adelaide loss

Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory head coach Grant Brebner lamented a lack of cutting edge after a 1-0 loss to Adelaide United in the A-League on Saturday.
Mohamed Toure's 53rd-minute goal proved to be the match-winner at Coopers Stadium in Victory's first competitive game in three weeks.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Brebner discussed the game and Rudy Gestede's early injury, the striker having hit the post before coming off in the 10th minute.
assessment…
"I think on the whole the better team won on the night. It's not to say that we didn't have a good night, but I think if you look at chances created, they would've been mightily frustrated had they not went on and won the game so from that perspective I think they were deserved winners."

Matchweek 5 preview: Western United v Perth Glory

Western United host Perth Glory on Saturday evening with both teams aiming to get their A-League campaign up and running.

Mark Rudan's United lost to Melbourne City after their season-opening stalemate with Adelaide United.

The scalp of Perth would undoubtedly be a big boost for the Melbourne club, who posted a home draw against Glory in their second-ever A-League game last season, before beating the WA club 2-0 away.

Matchweek 5 preview: Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners

Central Coast Mariners face a big test of their A-League credentials against Sydney FC on Friday night.

Back to back wins over Newcastle Jets and Macarthur FC gave Alen Stajcic's side a dream start to the season but the Mariners dropped their first points of the new campaign at home to Western Sydney Wanderers in a 1-0 loss last Tuesday.
