Carbon credits for farmers are a new innovative and incentivizing way for farmers to regeneratively practice farming right here in our own backyards and get money from businesses that want to offset their own emissions. However, there are some inequitable challenges to be worked out before the playing field is level. According to the EPA, farming and agriculture actually makes up about 12% of global greenhouse emissions, so it’s important for farmers to reduce their carbon footprint, too. But, the average Kansas farmer cannot compete with big business when it comes to paying to offset emissions. What if I told you that there may be a way for farmers and ranchers to work together with businesses wanting to offset carbon emissions that benefits the climate and the farmers? ....

Pratt schools make 2021 Homecoming plans; candidate pictures shared

Despite the uncertainty of this year, the students and staff at Pratt High School are determined to maintain a safe, fun, Winter Homecoming. This year’s festivities are set to take place Friday, February 5 with coordinators Rayna Bolen, the art teacher at PHS, and Joy Schmidt, the Pep Club sponsor, working to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
This year, they hope things will run smoothly, though they may look a little different. Bolen said that usually, she and her art students would be making the elaborate decorations that are such a big part of the assembly. ....

Lady Greenbacks start off wrestling season at Dodge City and Pratt

The Lady Greenbacks wrestling team’s season is in full swing, with the team having competed twice already. Their first dual was at Dodge City last Thursday, which they won 42-24.
On December 5, the Greenbacks hosted their home tournament, again doing well. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, several schools with large girls teams ended up backing out or going to another tournament. For Pratt, which fills almost all the weight classes for girls, adjustments were made by combining some classes to make sure everyone got to wrestle.
Even though the tournament was scarce on the girls side, there was much to be proud of in the Greenback camp. Devyn Geyer (fr.) finished in first place in the combined 101/109 weight class. Lilly Herrman (so.) also wrestled in the combined class, taking home 3rd. The next two weight classes were also combined 115 and 120. Jadyn Thompson (so.) the usual 115 lb. wrestlers secured the 1st place spot. Coach Thompso ....

Pratt girls take tough loss after battling injuries and foul trouble

The Lady Greenbacks lost their first game of the season last Friday against Larned. The final score was Pratt-38, Larned-42. This game was not the best way to start out the season, with Lexi Walker, (jr.) sustaining an injury, and three players fouling out all early in the fourth quarter. This left younger, less experienced players to try and hold on to the one-point lead the Lady Greenbacks had. Unfortunately, they were not able to hold it. Head Coach Dustin Hildebrand said that the team overall wasn’t consistently making shots.
“We had a 7 point lead at half and were doing well just we were shooting a low percentage,” Hildebrand said, “The 3rd quarter they outscored us 17-9 and took the lead going into the 4th quarter. They really kept looking to attack the inside and we didn’t do a good job of keeping their posts from getting position as well as their guards got drives into the lane. That quarter was what really hurt us.” ....
