Today morning, the Indian rupee fell as well. It opened at 81.85 per US dollar as against its Friday closing of 81.69. Indian stock indices extended their slump for the third consecutive session to start a fresh week. Continued profit booking by investors coupled with an eye on the future course of monetary policy action by the US Federal Reserve weighed on the indices.
The rupee closes at a new all-time low of 77.73 against the dollar, the fifth record weak close in the last 10 trading sessions.
The local currency rose to an intra-day high of 74.84 against the dollar and fell to an intra-day low of 75.07.
The local currency opened at 74.78 against the dollar at the interbank foreign exchange market on Friday. It rose to an intra-day high of 74.74 and fell to an intra-day low of 74.98 against the dollar during trade on Friday.
The rupee opened on a negative note at 74.40 per dollar as against its previous close of 74.26 at the interbank foreign exchange market.
