Curriculum Development for the African Union Governance Campus on the Cards

Share:
April 05, 2021
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) co-hosted a technical meeting on curriculum development for the African Union Governance Campus. The African Union Governance Campus is a set of governance development training programmes that is being developed in collaboration with the Pan African University.
It is envisioned that the programmes of the African Union Governance Campus will offer African-conceived and African-delivered modular programmes at post-graduate levels. The programmes will be delivered in two streams: an academic stream and an executive stream. To facilitate its delivery virtually and physically, the AU Governance Campus will have regional partner institutions across the continent, representing each of the six (6) AU regions (Central, East, North, South, West, and the Diaspora).

The gleaming city that emerged from turmoil in the heart of Africa

(CNN) — Kigali's streets thrum with traffic, motorbikes darting around buses, its roadside markets a hive of activity. Standing on the roadside, it's much like any other major city in the heart of Africa. But this is a city that stands apart from other metropolises on the continent.
Today, Rwanda's capital is synonymous with the surrounding green hills where mountain gorillas cling to life, while its streets have become famous throughout the world for being immaculate.
But for so many, this city remains tied to the genocide, which saw between 800,000 and one million Rwandans murdered in a brutal tribal conflict in 1994.

Twenty-seven years ago last week, on 6 April 1994, a plane carrying the Rwandan president Juvénal Habyarimana and his Burundian counterpart was shot down over Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. The assassination was the trigger for the Rwandan genocide, during which around 800,000 people, mostly of the minority Tutsi ethnic group, were massacred by Hutu génocidaires.

Morning Mile: The NBA, WTO & The Fight For Equal Vaccine Distribution

It has been nearly a year since the Milwaukee Bucks opted not to play in a first-round playoff game against the Orlando Magic in protest of the police shooting of Jacob Blake Jr. The Bucks’ protest was far from the first time that NBA players protested social injustice and anti-Black behavior, but it was certainly the loudest and clearest statement made by an NBA team in recent memory. Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and several other professional sports organizations followed the Bucks’ lead in this social movement. At the time, it was unclear how long the protest would last, but it quickly came to a screeching halt just a few days later and the Los Angeles Lakers would go on to win an NBA championship. While it would have certainly been great for NBA players to stand their ground and boycott the rest of the season, the strides made over the last few months led to a number of positive efforts. From LeBron James‘ More Than A Vote campaign to Chris Paul‘s HBCU Con, a number of NBA stars have used their capital to support marginalized communities across the nation. While the league continues to strengthen its stance against racism, discrimination and inequality domestically, an effort to combat these issues could be brewing internationally.
