9 Covid-19 Cases At Salima Sugar Company


Dr Charles Thupi, Company Secretary for the company has confirmed this the development.
Currently India has registered a fourth wave of Covid-19 which has seen an increase in positive and deaths reaching at three hundred thousand per day.
Thupi said the nine are among 40 Indians who arrived in the country after undergoing a Covid-19 test in India as per travel requirements.
He added that a PCR tests by Ministry of Health have been conducted today and they expect the results tomorrow.

Salima Sugar Company confirms 9 Covid-19 cases


There’s panic among residents in Salima district following revelation that Salima Sugar Company Limited has registered nine coronavirus disease (Covid-19) suspects.
The company’s Corporate Manager Dr. Charles Thupi confirmed the development in a interview on Wednesday.

However, Thupi assured Malawians that the company is do everything possible to ensure the safety of our staff and the community within and outside our estate.
He disclosed that the nine are among the 40 technicians who arrived in the country after undergoing a Covid-19 test in India as per travel requirements.
“They arrived in Malawi with Covid-19 negative certificates. Upon arrival as stipulated by the government, our company placed them in a highly monitored quarantine as a precaution. After seven days, we did a rapid test on them and 9 out of the new arrivals of 40 were under suspected category and required to undergo a PCR test,” said Thupi.

France-based Malawian Stanley Onjezani Kenani established the initiative to complement the government efforts to mobilize resources for combating the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
The pandemic has claimed millions of lives across the world. The second wave of the pandemic has overstretched the already resource-constrained the health system in Malawi, which prompted President Lazarus Chakwera to appeal for support from both local and international organizations and companies to complement efforts by the government to combat the disease.

Salima Sugar Company Limited has reportedly lost more than MK100 million this year due to illicit fires, vandalism and theft across its sugarcane farms.
