Unless we find a way to deal with our country's issues realistically, it's only a matter of time till we see similar unrest again.
A security officer walks through an entrance at Ndofaya Mall in Meadowlands, Soweto, under a gate with the words "Free Zuma" spray-painted on, during a clean-up operation, 20 July 2021, after rampant looting last week. Ten people died in a stampede at the shopping centre. Picture: Michel Bega
It's been nearly three weeks since the start of the deadly violence which erupted across parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, and in typical South African fashion, the country has simply started picking up the pieces and gone back to what passes for normal in this part of the world. What can't be calculated is the amount of trauma suffered by those who lost family members during the violence....

Another family meeting, another change in regulations. We’re back to Level 3, and with it come more freedoms, like a later curfew and the sale of alcohol, among other things.
After a few good weeks where South Africa’s COVID-19 infection rate has declined somewhat or at the very least stabilised, Ramaphosa announced the relaxation of restrictions from adjusted Level 4 to adjusted Level 3 that will allow restaurants to serve alcohol again and bars to open. He also gave us an hour more to stay out.

Ramaphosa on course to fully control ANC - analyst

Eric Naki
Indications are that in both Free State and North West ANC, the monopolistic power of the Zuma faction has been broken.

Far from toppling President Cyril Ramaphosa, the recent unsuccessful insurrection in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng may have strengthened his hand within the ANC as his battle-scarred loyalists closed ranks around him.
