PVV wins election with 37 seats in parliament; Got more votes than VVD did in 2021

The PVV has convincingly won the 2023 parliamentary election, standing at 37 seats with 94 percent of the votes counted. About 2.3 million people voted for the far-right party on Wednesday. Geert Wilders’ party is doing better than the VVD did in 2021 and 2017 when 2.2 million people voted for the party. In 2012, Rutte’s party received slightly more votes at 2.5 million.

Rutte IV coalition lost about half their seats; Voter turnout slightly lower than 2021

The four coalition parties that made up Rutte IV - VVD, D6t, CDA, and ChristenUnie - all lost seats in yesterday’s election. Of the 78 seats the parties won in the 2021 elections, just over half remain. According to the latest forecast from the ANP Election Service, the four parties are good for only 41 seats.
