Australia’s heavyweight gold medal hope Justis Huni will miss the Tokyo Olympics after injuring his hand in last week’s win over Paul Gallen.
The injury is believed to have occurred in the opening round and could see the 22-year-old out of the ring for five months.
Huni injured both hands sparring against Semisi Kalu in the lead up to the Gallen fight. He punched through the pain in his victory against Christian Tsoye and needed a needle for his left thumb before facing Gallen.

Boxing news | Justis Huni vs Christian Tsoye, Paul Gallen, Olympic gold medal plan

Heavyweight sensation Justis Huni insists that his No.1 priority remains an Olympic boxing gold medal, despite his hectic schedule in the pro ranks.
Huni (3-0, 3 KOs) will on Wednesday defend his Australian title against Christian Tsoye (5-3-2, 4 KOs) in Sydney, followed by a blockbuster clash against NRL great Paul Gallen (11-0-1, 6 KOs) on June 16.
The Tsoye fight is a relatively low-key affair, while he will concede most of the purse to Gallen when they clash in three weeks. The Tokyo Games are foremost in Huni's mind. Australia hasn't had an Olympic boxing medallist since Grahame Cheney at Seoul 1988 and Huni intends to go one better than his silver.
