Redesignate China Country of Particular Concern For Abusing Religious Freedoms: USCIRF Report

Reuters
The U.S. government should redesignate China as a “country of particular concern” (CPC) for violating the right to worship freely in its Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and elsewhere, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in an annual report Wednesday.
China was among 14 countries that USCIRF, a bipartisan and independent federal government body, recommended to the U.S. State Department in its 2021 Annual Report for designation as CPCs because their governments engage in or tolerate “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations.” Of the 14, China was among 10 that the State Department designated as CPCs in December 2020.

Washington DC: US Senators Marco Rubio and Chris Coons on Tuesday introduced bipartisan legislation wherein people of China’s Uyghur minority community facing government repression would become eligible for prioritised US refugee status.
“The Uyghur Human Rights Protection Act would make it easier for Uyghurs and members of other Turkic or Muslim minority groups to apply for resettlement in the United States, and it encourages our allies and partners to implement similar policies,” Coons, a Democrat, and his Republican colleague Rubio said in a release on Tuesday.

Harvard Law School Hosts Event Marking Five Years Since Ekpar Asat's Disappearance | News

Advocates and supporters of Ekpar Asat — a tech entrepreneur and brother of Rayhan Asat, Harvard Law School’s first Uighur graduate — gathered Wednesday in a virtual event commemorating five years since he was detained by the Chinese government and placed in a Xinjiang internment camp.
In a speech titled “For You I Rise,” Rayhan Asat said that April 7, 2016 — the day her brother was forcibly disappeared by the Chinese government — marks the “beginning of the nightmare” she has experienced daily for five years.
“I’m still in disbelief how one person’s life can be ruined against all reason at the pinnacle of his career,” Asat said. “A visionary who created opportunities for many up-and-coming writers, musicians, artists, and other young people. His focus was always on making the world better for others through collective effort.”

US Lawmakers Break Silence on Forced Organ Harvesting in China

US Lawmakers Seek Accountability for Organ Harvesting in China
WASHINGTON—A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers last month introduced the first legislation to combat global organ trafficking, which, if approved, would end U.S. silence on the lucrative and illegal practice perpetrated by the Chinese communist regime, according to experts.
U.S. lawmakers in early March reintroduced legislation in the Senate and the House to stop China’s state-sanctioned practice of forced organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience. Similar legislation was introduced in the previous session of Congress in December last year.
The United States and the international community have remained silent on the forced organ harvesting issue, despite the evidence of this practice, for far too long, Kristina Olney, the director of government relations for the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation told The Epoch Times.
