A close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta now admits that Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata was right about the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) fortunes in Mt Kenya region.
In a surprise move, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe said although he disagreed with Kang’ata’s mode of delivering his message, what he (Kang’ata) said regarding the situation on the ground was the truth.
Murathe strongly defended Kang’ata over his warning about BBI fortunes in Mt Kenya, saying it served as a wake-up call “for those concerned”.

Uhuru faces Mt Kenya at Sagana to push for BBI

President Uhuru Kenyatta will once again this Saturday face his restless backyard of Mt Kenya when he addresses a convention of social and political leaders at the Sagana River State Lodge in Nyeri county.
The convention, for which invites are already out, is being held in a familiar place where Kenyatta retreats to speak to his backyard when faced with a rebellion in his vote-rich home region.
The area is seen to be growing weary of being left without a kingpin when the president retires in 2022.

The battle for the passage of the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill now moves to county assemblies after electoral agency cleared over a million signatures for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Approval of 1.1 million signatures of the 4.4 million submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) sets in motion the process to change the Constitution.
At least 24 assemblies of the 47 are required to pass the Bill before it goes to the National Assembly.
Yesterday's development comes amidst growing disquiet in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mt Kenya backyard even as he prepares to hold a meeting this weekend at Sagana Lodge with the region's political leadership.

Kang'ata: Jubilee Now Using EACC To Intimidate Me After Tangatanga Thwarted De-whipping Plot

Kang’ata: Jubilee Now Using EACC To Intimidate Me After Tangatanga Thwarted De-whipping Plot
Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata is convinced that the ongoing probe into his law firm by EACC is an intimidation tactic by Jubilee Party over his controversial open letter to Uhuru Kenyatta.
The anti-corruption commission is investigating Mr Kang’ata and 24 other law firms over possible fraud in billing the Nairobi County government exorbitant legal charges for the period between 2013 and 2020.
Kang’ata is said to have received Sh3.3 million from City Hall in 2018.
The Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata, however, says the probe is the next intimidation scheme after the ruling party failed to de-whip him.

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into dealings between a law firm associated with Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang'ata and the Nairobi City County Government.
EACC in a letter to the Nairobi County Secretary requested case files for matters handled by Kang'ata's law firm along with 24 other firms for the period between 2013 and 2020.
The agency stated that the basis of the probe was a review of the legal fees paid by the county to the firms for the last seven years.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been challenged to crack the whip on dissenters within his Jubilee administration.
Siaya Senator James Orengo told President Kenyatta to stop tolerating dissidents in his administration.
"Even us in the opposition find it difficult to deal with a divided house in Jubilee. And this is the reason we beseech the President to take charge and put his house in order," Orengo said yesterday in Gem constituency during the funeral of the late Prof Absalom Otieno.
