ODM leader Raila Odinga has ceded ground over the contested political parties funding in a last-minute effort to woo back his estranged partners in the opposition coalition. Yesterday wrote to the four partner parties in NASA, agreeing to share funds attributed to Members of Parliament.
This was a climb-down by the former premier, who has previously insisted that he did not owe his coalition partners even a cent.
Raila wrote to Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress (ANC), Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Chama Cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto.

The emergence of cracks in the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga may force the former to rethink his political strategy, 16 months to the end of his tenure.
The Handshake between the two leaders, birthed on March 9, 2018, has in recent days been the subject of debate over its survival as allies of Raila accused persons within the Office of the President of sabotaging the pact.
Raila’s allies have been uncomfortable with what they see as inclusion of the ‘sacred alliance’ into an agreement that was initially between the two leaders, and have threatened to pull out of the arrangement.

No money is lying idle at CBK, governors respond to Yatani

Governors have hit out at the national government over delayed disbursement of funds to counties.
In a statement yesterday, Council of Governors (CoG) Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya termed as untrue National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani’s assertions that Sh34.6 billion was lying idle at the Central Bank of Kenya while counties protested delayed release of funds from the exchequer.
In addition to the Sh93.9 billion already released to counties, Mr Oparanya said seven counties have outstanding disbursements for the months of September and October, 2020.
This comes as senators called for a meeting of stakeholders to discuss the debt issue and how it will be managed amid an ailing economy, coupled with effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
