Two teens killed after train hits truck in Clarke County, Iowa

Two teenagers were killed Thursday after a freight train hit a pickup truck in Clarke County. Two other teenagers are in critical condition.
At about 4:30 p.m., the four teenagers had been traveling in a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup truck on a dirt road east of Murray and near the intersection of Kendall Street and 160th Avenue, according to Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla.
There, a Burlington Northern Sana Fe freight train struck the vehicle. Two of the teenagers were killed in the collision. The driver and another passenger were found suffering life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital by air ambulance, Dinkla said.

Pensacola towing rates could rise by 76% to $150 after council vote

The county's ordinance is much more complex than the city's, setting different rates based on the size of the vehicle, though the $150 rate applies to typical cars.
The City Council rejected that idea and instead opted to keep the city's own cap, increasing it to $150 on any vehicle regardless of size.
The council opted not to change its cap for storage, which is currently at $10 a day.
"I think we have to be really careful about ways that we actually build inequity," Councilwoman Teniadé Broughton said. "So what's happening here is someone got into a car accident, and they have to move the car. … I just think that being considerate of making them also have to pay, now not $85 but $150 is a poor example of an equitable outcome for certain people."

Customers on delayed JetBlue flight to Westchester County get credit

View Comments
Some 200 passengers on a Florida flight to Westchester County Airport in April that was delayed for more than 15 chaotic hours have received a customer credit from JetBlue Airways, according to the county.
Among passengers on the JetBlue flight, which was supposed to depart Fort Lauderdale on April 11, was Jim Maisano, Westchester’s consumer protection director. After the flight eventually landed on April 12 at 1:36 p.m. in Westchester, Maisano got some sleep — then wrote a letter.
His letter, one copy sent to JetBlue’s chief executive officer and the other to its president, on behalf of Flight 814’s passengers described what Maisano called a “nightmare for every passenger.”
