A 70-year-old man was driving a white Nissan Qashqai SUV when it crashed head-on into a tree at Pacific Paradise on the Sunshine Coast at 7am on Easter Sunday.

Picture: Scott Sawyer   Residents rushed out to help and firefighters used the jaws of life to cut the occupants free, in a desperate bid to save their lives. The pair was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital but the man died shortly after the crash. Senior Sergeant Edwards said the woman, 69, died about 10pm on Sunday. Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said the man was caught in Emu Park, near Rockhampton on Friday night. Adcock was found in a Toyota Camry on the corner of Roden and Schofield streets in Keppel Sands where he was approached by officers. Police will allege he reversed into a police vehicle and took off on foot. He was tracked by the dog squad and found hiding behind a shed.
