General Abdourahamane Tchiani of the Niger Republic has declared that the decision of the three Sahel countries to leave the 15-member nations of the West African bloc, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is sovereign.   General Tchiani, who toppled a democratically elected government in a military coup in July 2023, said that none of the three countries would rejoin the regional bloc, ECOWAS.

Speaking further, he stated that the country is not worried about the consequences that may arise in terms of security, trade, and socio-economic activities following their withdrawal from ECOWAS.

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) - The leader of the military junta in Niger, Abdourahamane Tchiani, has vowed that the country will not rejoin the Economic Community of West African States. He also vowed that none of the three Sahel nations would rejoin the ECOWAS. Tchiani stated this on Monday in an interview he granted to the RTN
