Iran hit with four-year judo ban for ordering athletes to avoid Israelis

Judo’s world body issued a four-year ban against the Iranian Judo Federation over Tehran’s demands that its athletes refuse to face Israeli opponents.
The ban was backdated to begin in September 2019, when Iranian judoka and former world champion Saeid Mollaei left the Iranian team during the World Championship in Tokyo, saying he was ordered to throw matches and withdraw from competitions in order to avoid facing Israeli competitors.

Iran Judo Federation given four-year ban by IJF in Mollaei case

Thursday, 29 April 2021
Iran has been hit with a four-year ban by the International Judo Federation (IJF) for "repeated and severe breaches" of the organisation’s statutes and the values of Olympism, after it instructed judoka Saeid Mollaei to avoid facing an opponent from Israel at the 2019 World Championships.
This is the second time the IJF has imposed a sanction on the Iran Judo Federation (IRIJF) in the case, with the original sanction of an indefinite suspension lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which ruled that "sanctions compliant with the IJF regulations should be imposed."
In its ruling, issued in March, the CAS panel concluded that "the IRIJF could validly be imposed a suspension or an expulsion."

For three days, Uzbekistan has been chasing after its gold medal. On the second day, it was very close, but unfortunately Sharofiddin Boltaboev failed in the -81kg final against Italian Christian Parlati. The last chance therefore rested on the shoulders of Davlat Bobonov, winner of the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2020 and having so far achieved a faultless day through the preliminary rounds. In the final he was opposed to Nagasawa Kenta (JPN), already winner of two Grand Slams in his career.

Uzbekistan welcomes the International Judo Federation World Tour with a passionate opening Ceremony on day 2 of the Tashkent Grand Slam. IJF President Mr Marius Vizer praised the organisers' efforts and noted the strong home team and enthusiastic crowd.
The middleweights battled it out for victory, and our woman of the day was Japan’s Tashiro Miku who flew through the elimination rounds, winning all her fights with her signature “sticky foot” or
Kosoto gari. She upped Japan’s gold medal count to an impressive five with a beautiful foot sweep in her gold medal match, making this her fifth Grand Slam title.
