Reporting rape is traumatic for anyone, but having to pay two months' wages to complete the medical form prevents many in Ghana from seeking justice, said a leading actress whose campaign to waive fees has reached the presidential palace.
British-Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese - who starred with Idris Elba in the award-winning 2015 drama "Beasts of No Nation" - started a petition after hearing about the prohibitive charges in the West African nation where rape convictions are rare.

Police officials in Ghana have caused controversy in recent weeks over their decision to shut down a center in Accra for the LGBTQ+ community, CNN reported late last month.
In response to the raid, dozens of Black celebrities and politicians in the United Kingdom released a letter on Monday condemning the raid and expressing support for the LGBTQ+ community across Africa. More than 30 countries in the continent have some kind of law criminalizing their existence, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association.

Ghana Election: Fact-Checking Claims About Voting Day

Voters in Ghana have gone to the polls to choose a new president and 275 members of parliament.
The country is regarded as one of the most democratic in West Africa.
But there have been some examples of misinformation about the voting.
Were ballots printed to favour the president?
A video has been circulating on social media channels that purports to show a ballot with a larger fingerprint box for President Nana Akufo-Addo.
This claim was first highlighted by West African fact-checking site Dubawa.
However, the ballot featured in the video is missing some of the features that appear on official ballots, such as a red background behind all the images and an official stamp.
