Stylish Padikkal steals thunder from captain Kohli in emphatic 10-wicket victory for RCB
MUMBAI, Apr 22: Devdutt Padikkal managed to overshadow none other than the great Virat Kohli with an elegant hundred in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s successful 178-run chase against Rajasthan Royals, in a virtual cakewalk of an IPL contest here on Thursday.
It hardly happens that someone as brilliant as Kohli, plays a second fiddle, allowing the talented left-hander use his sinewy wrists to caress the balls to all parts of the ground during a mind-blowing maiden IPL century — an unbeaten 101 off 52 balls.
RCB never looked in any tearing hurry and yet the target was achieved in only 16.3 overs with all 10 wickets intact.

Several reactions poured in as fans trolled the Mumbai Indians southpaw after Hooda's exploits.
Deepak Hooda started his IPL career with Rajasthan Royals in 2014 where he played for two years (2014-15) and earned Rs 40 lakh per season.
Hooda was bought by Punjab Kings in IPL 2020 for Rs 50 lakh.
Punjab Kings batsman Deepak Hooda was a man on a mission on Monday (April 12) night. Sent at the No. 4 position in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 clash against Rajasthan Royals, Hooda blasted a 20-ball half-century en route to scoring 64.
This was Hooda’s first major outing in the middle for the season after being suspended by his home association – Baroda Cricket Association – earlier this season. But while the Punjab Kings fans celebrated, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya got trolled on social media.

Having finished in seventh and eighth position in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals have a lot to prove this time around. The franchise has lost eight matches in each of the last two editions, for a grand total of 23 points from 28 matches. In a league that boasts of its high quality across the board, often rightly so, that is simply not good enough.
In the last season before an expected shake-up of teams for 2022, Royals have decided to ring in the changes. A new captain in Sanju Samson, a new-look support staff, some new faces in the team.

Chennai: Sanju Samson (119 off 63 balls) scored a hundred on his Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy debut but couldn’t take Rajasthan Royals (RR) past the finish line, getting dismissed off the last of the match as his team lost to Punjab Kings (PK) by four runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday night.
RR looked very much in the game throughout as Samson brought the equation down to 5 runs off two balls. However, he refused to take a run on the second last ball after he had hit it to deep extra cover which could have fetched them a run, even a double. Instead, he eyed a glory shot for six on the last ball, but holed out to deep extra cover as his side fell short by four runs.

IPL 2021: Eyes on skipper Samson and 'big-buy' Morris as Rajasthan look to end title drought
Rajasthan Royals witnessed a forgettable season last year as they finished at the bottom of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table. But the team made its intent clear at the auction table itself in February when they made the most expensive buy - picking Chris Morris for Rs 16.25 crore. Add to that a change in leadership with Sanju Samson being named skipper, the Royals definitely mean business going into season 14.

Mumbai won the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy after an impressive six-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh in the final.
But the focus, for most observers, was not so much on who won the tournament. Rather, it was on the new faces that make themselves known or even perhaps old stars putting their hand up to show that they are no longer out of form and are new options that the selectors need to keep an eye out.
