Due to the rise in the water level of Yamuna and resultant inundation of low-lying areas, traffic movement has been impaired on Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Ring Road) between IP Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara, while the area near Nigam Bodh Ghat was also flooded.
Non-essential government offices, schools and colleges in Delhi have been asked to remain closed till Sunday due to extensive flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Private centres in Delhi have also been advised to work from home and commercial entities around Kashmere Gate have been shut until Sunday. Traffic movement has been impaired in several parts of the city due to inundation in low-lying areas. The rise in water level in Yamuna has added to the challenge.
The visuals on social media also showed huge traffic on the National Highway-24 and Sarai Kale Khan where vehicles were crawling.
With Yamuna levels rising to a record high, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Thursday directed that non-essential government offices, schools and colleges be closed till Sunday, officials said. Private establishments across the city are advised to work from home, they said. The decision was made at the DDMA meeting held at the L-G Secretariat here on Thursday.
