A look back at the Sinulog Grand Finale 2015-2020

January 17, 2021
AS MUCH as Cebuanos want to hear the endless beat of the drums, the sharp sound of trumpets and the laughter of people having fun in the streets of Cebu City, all these will not happen this Sinulog in this time of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Sinulog is one of the most vibrant, exciting and popular festivals in the Philippines and is celebrated every third Sunday of January in honor of the Señor Sto. Niño.
From the first parade in 1980 participated in by seven schools and universities, until the recent grandiose celebrations, the “Mother of all Festivals” highlight the faith and devotion of Filipinos.

ALTHOUGH physical activities have been canceled, there is no stopping Cebu City from celebrating this year's Sinulog Festival on Sunday, January 17, 2021, as the government promised a "grand virtual Sinulog."
Here are five things we can look forward to while we watch the celebration online.
1. Watch old Sinulog performances, even as old as 1982
A collection of videos of Sinulog performances as old as those taken in 1982 will be included in the virtual program along with footage of other performances done in the last 40 years. The Sinulog grand parade started in 1981.
The virtual program can be viewed on SFI’s official webpage sinulog.ph, its YouTube channel, and its Facebook page.

JUST because Sinulog 2021 festivities have been canceled due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic, it doesn't mean it can stop believers (and non-believers) from reliving the celebration in the comforts of their homes.
The Sinulog Film Festival is one of the most anticipated events during the Sinulog revelries. It aims to capture through film how a person's life has been changed through the Santo Niño, the true star of all the shorts.
Over the years, talented Cebuano filmmakers captured the essence of the celebration from the grandiose to the mundane. With a wide range of themes that encompasses different genres, these films will surely make your eyes sting, get you bursting in laughter and tug your heartstrings.

IF YOU'RE a Cebuano, then you've probably heard the traditional Santo Niño hymn, "Gozos (Bato Balani sa Gugma)." The song is popularly sung during the nine-day Novena Mass of the Santo Niño as part of the Fiesta Señor.
Bato Balani sa Gugma, which means Magnet of Love, is a Catholic song that spans six to seven minutes.
