Civil society groups have been pressing for the Union Territory to be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has called a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on Ladakh, chaired by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, in New Delhi on February 19.
While the call for a protest was announced earlier this week, on Friday, the Centre announced a second round of meeting of high-powered committee set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to address the demands of the people of the region since its split from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
As is too often the case, women in Bodoland, Assam, have been relegated to the periphery of formal peacebuilding.
A complete shutdown was observed across Ladakh as thousands marched demanding statehood and constitutional protections under the sixth schedule for the Union Territory.
