Remote sensing of the cryosphere is an important topic of modern environmental studies. This is due to the fact that snow and ice cover large portions of the Northern hemisphere in winter and also snow permanently presents almost over the whole of Antarctica, which is the fifth-largest continent almost twice of Australia.
