front. areas of low pressure arrive along this. reinforcing this heavy rain in the southeast. to the northeast, we'll see that snow move off, but by tomorrow, we're going to see an area of low pressure deepen and it's going to throw back some snow swo into the mid-atlantic. from d.c. to raleigh, into virginia, we're looking at the potential for accumulating snow. and this would happen in the overnight hours into your monday morning commute. imagine going back to work after your two weeks of enjoyment and you're dealing with a messy commute tomorrow morning. and then an area of high pressure moves in after that and that reinforces the cold air in place. where there is not cold air, that's in the southeast. temperatures in the 70s and 80s. 77 today in mobile. that's 15 degrees above normal this time of year. and that warmth stretches up to new york city. 59, near 60 degrees as a high this afternoon. we will see temperatures plummeting 30 degrees by later on tonight and we'll be in the 30s in new york city. and then it's off to the west where we're looking at 5 degrees

60 car pileup down neampleted janice, what's the latest? janice: so as rob mentioned the storm is transitioning. it's going to be a coastal low over the next couple of hours and strengthen over the atlantic. look at the snow we have received over the last couple of days across the west. the northern plains, the upper midwest and even the northeast here so on top of that why have more snow to come 12 to 18 inches up state new york and new england. this is what we are dealing with we have that primary low moving across portions of the ohio valley and then we have got the freezing rain and the sleet that's mixing in and the storm comes offshore and starts to strengthen into our coastal low. as rob mentioned, it looks pretty good right now. we already have delays in philadelphia and that is going to stack up throughout the day today unfortunately because the storm is going to crank up. current wind gusts 30 to 40 miles along the coast here. start to see that snow move into areas like new york city and boston overnight

biggest snowstorm there in years, as much as 16 inches of snow is predicted. cnn meteorologist chad myers has our forecast. what are you seeing, chad? >> you know, i think the people of boulder are tired of snow. they moved out there to see the snow, but they've already had 32 inches before this storm, another 10 to 12 on top of that, snowing heavily right now in denver, low visibilities. it's only 4:30, it could be very slow today. winter storms from the great lakes into the desert southwest. we will even have some blizzard conditions across parts of nebraska, kansas, and colorado. now that's not the bulk of the travel areas, but if you're traveling across i-76 or 80, it is going to be a mess. move you ahead until tomorrow. we start to see that snow move into the northern great lakes. most of this storm, though, is rain. this is a warm enough storm to make rain through wednesday and thursday and even into friday, so the rain could slow you down, especially at the airports, but it really won't be much in the way of snow for this storm on the eastern half of the u.s. there could be some tornados
