'The White Tiger': Petitioners who had sought stay on release fail to appear before court | India News

NEW DELHI: Petitioners who had sought a stay on release of the film "The White Tiger" failed to appear before court for a hearing on Thursday.
Sonia Mudbhatkal, who runs a production company in US, and and Hollywood filmmaker John Hart Jr had pleaded for a stay on the film's release, alleging copyright infringement. They had moved court a day before the films's release on a streaming service last month.
However Justice C Hari Shankar had dismissed the stay application, saying not a single reason was shown to approach the court less than 24 hours before release of the film.

A complaint has been filed seeking a probe into Mukul Deora’s alleged benami entity and benamidar Swiss bank account, used for development funding the Netflix film, The White Tiger.

The formal request for an investigation was sent to Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the dealings of late Congress politician Murli Deora’s son, Mukul Deora, his chartered accountant Sharad Seksaria, and also Netflix. The request to probe Mukul Deora’s shell companies was made by Sonia Mudbhatkal, Founder and CEO of the New Jersey-based Continuum Media LLC.

Reacting to the charges on Monday evening, Mukul Deora pointed out Delhi High Court has already observed that it was not possible to come to any prima facie conclusion that, by producing or releasing The White Tiger, the Defendants had indulged in illegal copyright infringement or transgressed the right of the Plaintiff, as was being alleged.

New Delhi [India], January 22 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to grant any interim relief to Hollywood filmmaker John Hart Jr seeking to stay the release of the film "The White Tiger" on over the top (OTT) platform Netflix.
In a hearing that took place late evening, a single-judge bench of Justice C Hari Shankar asked defendants including the film producer and Netflix to keep detailed accounts of earnings from the film.
In case the plaintiffs succeeded later in their suits then it would be possible to re-compensate them, the court said.

Appearing for John Hart Jr, advocate Kapil Sankhla told the court that Hart had won the right to make a movie adaptation of the book 'The White Tiger' in March 2009 and Mudbhatkal had contacted Hart to launch her production career with the book. In case the plaintiffs succeeded later in their suits then it would be possible to re-compensate them, the court said.

The Delhi High Court Thursday refused to stay the release of film 'The White Tiger' tonight on OTT platform Netflix on a plea by Hollywood producer John Hart Jr alleging copyright violation. In an urgent hearing conducted late evening, Justice C Hari Shankar dismissed the stay application by the producer saying not a single reason was shown to approach the court less than 24 hours before release of the film.
The court, which heard the matter for over two hours, issued summons to the producer of the film Mukul Deora and Netflix where it will be released tonight. It listed the matter for completion of pleadings before the joint registrar on March 22. The film The White Tiger' is based on the book The White Tiger' which was released in March 2008. It features Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav in the lead role.
