19-year-old celebrates winning Birstall and Birkenshaw seat on Kirklees Council

“I was fairly confident, but not to get the result that I got.”
The last few years since leaving Batley Grammar School have been revelatory for Joshua.
He says the Brexit vote in 2016 was the catalyst in propelling him towards politics.
“Brexit sparked my interest in politics. I couldn’t vote in 2016 but having researched the issues and read widely on the subject I know now that I would have voted leave.
“I read all the party ideologies and realised that I aligned with the Conservatives.
“That’s where it all started for me.”
He also praised his colleagues at Fox’s Biscuits who set aside traditional divisions to not only offer support but to accompany him on the slog to deliver leaflets during an election campaign constrained by Covid restrictions.
