May 20, 2021 Law enforcement are currently involved in a standoff at Westway Apartments of highway 341. County police and sheriff’s deputies are engaged with a suspect. Swat is on scene. The man is not a resident of the apartments. He was visiting his ex-wife when things turned sour. She called police and authorities found outstanding warrants in his home state. Witnesses on scene say his wife is out of the apartment and he is currently in her apartment by himself. Swat issued a warning and deployed numerous canisters of tear gas. May 3, 2021 An explosion at the waterfront has broken out into a fire. Felt by people several blocks away, the explosion took place in Logistec building 225 on Newcastle St. The same building was the site of the spontaneous combustion of wood pellets in 2017 and was a replacement building for one destroyed by a fire in 2016. As of this writing there are no reports of fatalities or injuries. We will update as more becomes known.
Apr 28, 2021 From The Islander: The lead prosecutor in the case of the February 2020 shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery Jesse Evans has stepped down. Evans has left the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office where he served as deputy chief assistant district attorney. Instead Cobb County Assistant District Attorney Linda Dunikoski will prosecute the case against 35 year old Travis McMichael, 65 year old Gregory McMichael, and 51 year old William “Roddie” Bryan.
