Jackson Hole and Aspen: 2 ski towns, 2 ways to shred the spread

But manager Jim Morrison can’t say why, exactly.
“Of course our business is down,” he told the News&Guide. “It’s just too difficult to say how much is purely affidavit driven, COVID driven, or snow driven. It’s pretty evident that people are willing to risk traveling in COVID environments, even at a high risk level.”
Why hotels in the Roaring Fork Valley are seeing so much less traffic than those in resort towns like Jackson Hole is a central question in an ongoing debate in Pitkin County. Health officials there have reacted to the COVID-19 pandemic in two ways that health officials in Teton County have not: by requiring visitors to fill out a form confirming they’ve tested negative before arriving in Aspen and shutting down indoor dining when cases peaked in early January. ....

Though some may wish it flushed into obscurity, 2020 will occupy an indelible spot in history.
It was a year defined by tumult and change, a year when “unprecedented” was used so many times it nearly lost its meaning. It was a year of bitter divisions and traumatic loss.
Article continues below.
Most of this tectonic shifting was wrought by COVID-19 and the global pandemic it ushered into the world.
That pandemic hit Wyoming in March, disrupting life as coronavirus infected what would become at least 35,000 residents. Shutdowns followed, and loss, isolation and frustration rippled through the state. The economic blow worsened an already dire financial picture. Protests and debates underlined political chasms.  ....

Getting to and from Teton Village has been tough, but more capacity is on the way

Beppe Amodio, a 25-year-old ski technician at Nomad Sports, tends to ride the START bus to and from work.
But this winter the pandemic, and the changes to public transit that have resulted, have thrown a wrench in his rhythm.
When he finished his shift around 2 p.m. Thursday he grabbed his ski gear and took a few laps. When he tried to catch a bus afterward he ran into an obstacle. Many obstacles.
“I went to go get on the bus back to Stilson, and there were like over 200 people out there waiting,” he said. “I didn’t want to go be in a crowd that big because of COVID.” ....
