Stronger Communities Gladstone share in $2.5m DV funding

Preventing domestic violence in the Gladstone region has been given a boost, with Stronger Communities sharing in part of $2.5m to help address the escalating problem.
The partnership funding between state and federal governments aims to help domestic, family and sexual violence service providers respond to the complexities and challenges resulting from COVID-19.
Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said $56,387 would help Stronger Communities Ltd provide a vital service helping families in the region with domestic and family violence.
“It is fantastic to see the Stronger Communities Ltd as one of the successful recipients as they assist victims of domestic and family violence and support them in the safest and most appropriate way for their individual needs,” Mr Butcher said. ....

Cash for the Peak Downs and Bruce highways, a funding injection to build Urannah Dam and money towards the Pioneer Valley Mountain Bike Trails have topped our pollies federal budget wishlists.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg will deliver the federal government s financial blueprint to parliament next Tuesday May 11.
Here are the projects Dawson MP George Christensen and Capricornia MP Michelle Landry want to see included for their respective regions in the budget.
George Christensen:
Urannah Dam: Mr Christensen said the proponents of the project were looking for financial support to get the dam to the construction stage.
I think we re going to see a significant commitment to Urannah dam in the budget as well, he said. ....

A much-needed cash injection will help Mackay and Sarina lifesavers do what they do best instead of focusing on fundraising for their future.
Surf Life Saving Clubs across Dawson and Capricornia can apply for a share of $9.7 million to upgrade equipment and bolster training programs to keep beachgoers safe after the Federal Government.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the additional funding would help save lives, building on a further $21 million over the next three years for the Water and Snow Safety Program.

Cemetery policy review
Council agenda documents state that after a council briefing session on February 17, changes were made to the region s cemetery policy to better reflect community expectations.
Some of the major amendments suggested for the policy include allowing real and artificial flowers after the first month after interment and allowing adornments on graves if they are secure and don t encroach on other graves.
The amendments reflect a more considered approach to respecting the rights of families and the broader community feedback to allow for managing cemeteries and their ongoing maintenance, council agenda documents state. ....
