Bay City Rollers’ fans were left disgusted and saddened by the omission of Edinburgh singer Les McKeown from this year's Royal Variety Performance tributes to those in the showbiz world who left us in 2021.

THE night of my 60th birthday in 2015 turned out to be a little bit special.
I celebrated this milestone by going to see The Bay City Rollers play live at Barrowland in Glasgow.
During the concert, I got the surprise of my life when I was inducted into the Barrowland Hall of Fame … becoming the first music journalist to receive such an accolade.
On stage – before the 1500-capacity, tartan clad audience – singer Les McKeown presented me with a handsome trophy.
Minutes later he was singing a song whose chorus went:
“Well we sang Shang-A-Lang/As we ran with the gang/Doin’ doo wop be dooby do ay.”

THE sudden death of Bay City Rollers' frontman Les McKeown last week sparked memories of Rollermania among York fans.
Several Press readers recalled seeing the Scottish pop band play the Cat's Whiskers club which was at the Rialto venue in Fishergate.
Gavin Craft, Michael Hodgson, Rob Stagnell, Sheila Gomez, Linda Jones and Kay Fawcett all remember seeing the tartan-glad pop stars at the Cat's Whiskers in the mid 1970s at the height of Rollermania.
Michael Hodgson posted: "Saw the Rollers at the Cat's Whiskers 1974 I believe. Cost £1 a ticket to get in."
Rob Stagnell added: "Saw them in the Cat's Whiskers in York, the place was packed."

Les McKeown, who has died aged 65, was the frontman in the Bay City Rollers, the Scottish boy band who took the 1970s music world by storm with “Rollermania”; his vocals were first heard in 1974 on Remember (Sha-La-La-La), which shot to No 6 in the UK charts, heralding the start of band’s most successful period.

Les McKeown, Bay City Rollers star, dead aged 65 as family pay tribute

The Edinburgh singer died suddenly at his home on Tuesday.
A statement published on the musician's social media read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Leslie Richard McKeown.
"Leslie died suddenly at home on Tuesday 20 April.
"We are currently making arrangements for his funeral and ask for privacy after the shock of our profound loss.
"Thank you. Keiko and Jubei McKeown."
His former manager John MacLaughlan spoke to the Daily Record after he was told the tragic news by the Les's wife Peko.
John told the paper: "I'm very sad and shocked and so is Peko, his wife. She is heartbroken and called me from Les' phone with the news. I picked up and thought it was Les wanting a chat.

THE lead singer of the legendary Scottish band the Bay City Rollers has died.
Les McKeown, the band's frontman, passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday, the Daily Record reports.
His former manager John MacLaughlan broke the news to the paper after he was told the tragic news by the Les's wife Peko.
