Jedward slam Simon Cowell and the X Factor in Twitter tirade

Irish popstars Jedward have called One Direction “survivors” in a series of tweets slamming The X Factor, Simon Cowell, and his music label Syco Entertainment.
The identical twins, whose real names are John and Edward Grimes, rose to fame in 2009 when they became fan favourites on The X Factor.
Now, they have spoken out about the alleged mistreatment they and other contestants suffered on the show, adding that artists like One Direction and Little Mix are unable to discuss any such incidents due to their contracts.
The 29-year-olds began a series of tweets last night by writing, “The biggest regret in life was not telling the judges on X Factor to f*ck off!”

Women who left Crowne Plaza quarantine hotel in Dublin found almost 200km away in Galway

Gardaí say the matter is now in the hands of the Department of Health.
"An Garda Síochána are liaising with the State Liaison Officer at a designated quarantine facility in accordance with current protocols following a report of three people leaving a facility in the Dublin area earlier today,” a statement this evening said.
"A graduated policing response was adopted by Gardaí and all three have since been returned to the facility.
“As the Department of Health are the lead agency in relation to the management of mandatory quarantining, An Garda Síochána will not be commenting further at this time.”

Annie Lennox's rising star daughter Lola Lennox to release new single

Wherever You Go is written by Lola, produced by her partner, Braeden Wright, and co-produced by her mum, Annie.
Now living in Los Angeles, she says the song is inspired by her experience of moving far from home and embarking on a life elsewhere while managing long distance relationships with those she loves.
Lennox has waited until her late twenties to launch her solo career, despite being around music all her life.
As a child, Lola recalls taking off on school holidays and heading out around Europe and America on tour with her mum.
"That was super-fun," Lola remembers. "It also inspired my passion for music because every other night I'd watch these incredible musicians playing these wonderful songs, like Why, Walking on Broken Glass and Sisters [Are Doing It for Themselves]."

“He basically just said that we need to be on guard, we need to be advised on how to stay safe and that a crime prevention officer would come to the house. My number would be highlighted at Coolock Garda Station and if I rang at any time of the day or night, a car would be sent straight down.
The woman told listeners that she lives in fear every day and fears for her and her 21-year-old son’s safety.

Gardai continue to quiz five in connection with attempted murder of criminal Michael Brennan

Brennan was jailed for 10 years in March 2010 for attempting to murder another man over a €200 drug debt.
He was convicted by a jury in 2009 of the attempted murder of James Egan and of possession of a sawn-off shotgun.
The jury heard that he was a teenager when he went to Mr Egan's home and carried out the shooting on April 29, 2006.
He was also sentenced to eight years for the possession of a firearm.
The sentences were concurrent and backdated to 2007, meaning he served nearly ten years in total before his release in 2016.
Brennan was rushed to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance for “non-life threatening injuries” and has since recovered.

Sentencing of Kinahan Cartel mobster Thomas 'Bomber' Kavanagh delayed for at least another five months

Feared gangland boss Thomas ‘Bomber’ Kavanagh won’t be sentenced for at least another five months after massive delays caused by Covid-19 and due to a dispute over the basis of his plea.
His co-accused Daniel Canning and Gary Vickery remain on bail despite the seriousness of their offences and their guilty pleas to major drugs importation charges.
A Newton hearing was requested after the pleas which were made in July of 2020. It is to settle a dispute between the prosecution and defence over the amount of drugs and money laundering involved.
Newton hearings are held before a judge without a jury present, which is generally held to resolve serious factual issues between the prosecution and defence.

GSOC probe finds no Garda misconduct after woman complained about judge calling her 'very beautiful'

A woman who complained after a judge telephoned her after hearing her case to say she was “very beautiful” said she was shocked to discover no action will now be taken over the matter.
The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, lodged a complaint but no action was taken against the judge – or the investigating gardaí whom she claimed had initially tried to blame her for the contact.
Gardaí decided, following an investigation into her complaint, that there was no criminal element to the matter and ruled out any further action.
At one point, the woman said it was suggested to her by a garda that it was a simple “boy meets girl” scenario.
