Opposition bloc INDIA on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his 'silence' on Manipur issue and said that the government machinery has completely failed to control the Manipur ethnic conflict.
On the first day of their two-day whirlwind tour, they visited several relief camps in Imphal, Moirang in Bishnupur district and Churachandpur and met scores of victims of ethnic clashes from both the warring communities.
The Governor and the visiting delegation, during their interaction, suggested that a multi-party delegation be sent to violence-hit Manipur.
Shiv Sena Party MP Sanjay Raut has defended an opposition group's recent visit to the Indian state of Manipur, which was hit by ethnic violence. A multi-party delegation from the Indian Nationalist Democratic Alliance visited the region to "bring about psychological healing" for people affected by the clashes. In response to criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Raut said it was the responsibility of the opposition to visit the troubled area and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to do so.
Earlier in the day, the delegation of 21 MPs of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) also called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal and submitted a memorandum on their observations during the visit.
