It would have felt strange, after the year Australian football has had, for the 2020/21 W-League season to conclude in a simple, straightforward way.
After four months of delays, postponements and reschedules brought about by border closures and extreme weather events, the competition's 14-round regular season has finally been completed, with Sydney FC claiming their third minor premiership on the last possible match day.

Sydney FC have an opportunity to return to the A-League's top six when they host Newcastle Jets this Saturday (kick off 5.05pm AEDT).
The Sky Blues snapped a four-match run without a win by accounting for Western United 2-0 on Wednesday, with Bobo again on the scoresheet and Rhyan Grant netting in his milestone 200th A-League match for the club.
Steve Corica's side will fancy their chances at getting the three points against a Newcastle Jets outfit coming into the clash after back to back defeats to Adelaide United (2-1) and Wellington Phoenix (2-0).

A hero to some, a villain to others, an undeniably ruthless finisher, a destroyer of records: there's no mistaking the enormous impact Besart Berisha has made on Australian football since he first arrived at Brisbane Roar.
Almost ten years have passed since he made his competition debut. In that time the A-League's all-time leading goalscorer has won the A-League Golden Boot twice along with one FFA Cup, two Premierships and four Championships split equally between Brisbane and Melbourne Victory.
Now in his second season at Western United, the deadly marksman moved out on his own as the second-highest goalscorer in the history of Australia's national football leagues with 138 goals after scoring a brace in United's 4-1 destruction of Macarthur FC in Matchweek 9.

'I always back myself' - Barbarouses snaps goal drought against Phoenix

A-League.com.au

Sydney FC forward Kosta Barbarouses says he never lost faith in his goalscoring abilities despite failing to find the back of the net for over a year in the A-League.
New Zealand international Barbarouses scored a double on Monday night to give Sydney a 2-1 win over former employers and hometown club Wellington Phoenix.
The 30-year-old - who has found the back of the net from the penalty spot against Western Sydney Wanderers this season - last scored a goal in open play against Melbourne Victory on January 24, 2020.
The departure of ex-Premier League marksman Adam Le Fondre has elevated the goal-scoring responsibility for Barbarouses this season, and having haunted Phoenix with a brilliantly-dispatched double, the Kiwi looks fit again to carry that mantle - particularly with Brazilian star Bobo still to be wedded back into the Sky Blues frontline.
