Former AIADMK leader VK Sasikala has again hinted at her return to politics in another leaked conversation with a party worker named Kubendran from Periyakulam. She could be heard comparing herself to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her intention to merge AIADMK and AMMK.

In the last five years, the average wealth of re-contesting candidates from the AIADMK increased by 171% compared to 48% of those from the DMK
A comparison of the wealth details of re-contesting candidates of the two major parties in Tamil Nadu, DMK and AIADMK, in the Assembly election 2021 compared to 2016 shows that the average assets of candidates from the AIADMK recorded a much higher increase than those from the DMK (who also increased their assets over the same period). The calculations were made from candidates’ affidavits and data compiled by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

25 per cent of newly elected Tamil Nadu MLAs have serious criminal cases against them: Report

CHENNAI: A total of 25 per cent of the candidates elected during the 2021 Tamil Nadu elections have serious criminal cases against them, according to a report by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch.
The report titled 'Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 Analysis of Criminal Background, Financial, Education, Gender and Other Details of Winning Candidates' said 57 of the 224 candidates whose affidavits were analysed have serious criminal cases against them. In the last elections, the state had elected 42 MLAs with serious criminal cases, which accounted for 19 per cent of candidates.
The report states that two of the winning candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section-302) against themselves and 13 winning candidates have declared cases of attempt to murder (IPC Section-307). Three winning candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women and of these, one has declared a case related to rape.

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore (South) under Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief is pitched against Mayura S Jayakumar (Congress), Vanathi Srinivasan (BJP), Abdul Wahab (NTK) and R Duraisamy (AMMK), along with many other independent candidates. 
The Coimbatore South seat is showing flip-flops every now and then. Early trends showed Kamal Haasan leading. However, after the second round of counting, MNM chief Kamal Hassan was trailing while Congress' Mayur Jayakumar was leading.
