TAMPA, Fla. — Side coordinators want to remind people Tuesday, May 25 is the last day for vaccinations at the federally-supported Tampa Greyhound Track COVID vaccination site.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management says the last day federally-supported vaccination sites will administer shots is Tuesday, May 25, and says on Wednesday, May 26, the site will close permanently and begin demobilizing.
Virginia Elston got her second dose on Monday and said the vaccination site has been very convenient.
“Prior to coming here, I was trying to sign up online, and it was confusing, and they didn’t have this, and you had to go here, and to just be able to come here, drive in, and get it done was very valuable," said Elston.

Many Government-Run Vaccination Sites Across Florida Are Shutting Down

WUSF Public Media
Most government-run vaccination sites plan to close by the end of July as demand drops and vaccines become more widely available at pharmacies and other community locations.
In the greater Tampa Bay region, many vaccination sites have already administered their last shots. Most of the remaining state and county facilities are slated to close in the next few weeks.
Even though only about
45 percent of Florida’s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, demand for the shots has been decreasing.
In response, mass vaccination sites are shutting down and vaccine supplies are shifting to pharmacies and targeted locations like schools and churches.

Sunburn — The morning read of what’s hot in Florida politics — 5.6.21
Let’s start the morning with some great news about two really good people:
Aly is a vice president of Accounts with On3PR, while
Omar is deputy chief of staff to Speaker
Chris Sprowls.

@NickConfessore: The fact that this private corporate administrative decision is being covered as something akin to a Supreme Court ruling — rightly so, I think — is the best illustration I can imagine of the sheer power Facebook has achieved over the public square
—
@BostonJoan: Imagine spending millions to offload blame only to have it returned like a bill lost in the mail, which is now overdue.

Public health officials are sounding off on the importance of getting the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, as new data from the CDC shows millions of people may have missed their second dose.
Charlotte Crain got her first dose of the Moderna vaccine about two weeks ago.
“Nothing from the first dose really happened,” said Crain. “I got really, really tired, but it was nothing that I couldn’t handle.”
