KUALA LUMPUR – “I don’t intend to overstay one’s welcome… every beginning has an end,” said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, who will hand over the post to his successor, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, who is currently deputy IGP, this Monday.
If there was anything he was not able to do during his two years of helming the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), he said it was not being able to visit Sabah and Sarawak to solve problems facing the Sang Saka Biru team in the two states.

PETALING JAYA: The government should review and improve the process in the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to instil integrity and public confidence, says civil rights and electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0.
Its steering committee said that it was necessary to reflect the top cop’s ability to carry out his duties with integrity, impartiality and fairness.
“Bersih 2.0 expresses concern over Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s conversation with an unknown individual to discuss the candidate for the IGP position.
“The discussion that was leaked on social media and was admitted by Hamzah himself, among others, mentioned that they need to appoint ‘our boy’ to be the IGP.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Police Force Commission (SPP) should not be chaired by a minister in order to prevent any political interference, says Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.
The outgoing Inspector-General of Police said a minister should not interfere in the management of the police force.
"A minister should focus on matters involving policies, not deciding who would be CPO (state police chiefs) or (Bukit Aman) directors.
"I propose for former chief justices or former judges to helm the SPP instead of a minister," he said during his last press conference on Friday (April 30) before he is scheduled to retire on May 3.

“PDRM should be fair regardless of race, religion and people,” he said and hoped his successor would continue the efforts to eradicate corrupt practices among police officers and personnel.

Sellers imposed with RM50,000 fine can appeal for lower amount

- Bernama
KUALA LUMPUR: The RM50,000 compound imposed on two sellers in Kota Bharu, Kelantan for operating beyond 10pm is not a “death penalty” as they are allowed to appeal for a lower amount to the Ministry of Health (MOH), said Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.
Abdul Hamid said individuals who were compounded for flouting the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) set to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak could directly appeal to the MOH for a reduction.
“It is not a ‘death penalty’ (based on the prescribed amount, they still can appeal), I have repeatedly stated that they can appeal,” he told reporters at a press conference after handing over appreciation letters to reject corruption at Bukit Aman here today.
