Immigration advocates on Monday will rally at Moffett Field in Mountain View, a former Navy base where federal authorities are considering temporarily housing unaccompanied children who recently crossed the southwest border.
Officials with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — the umbrella agency that oversees government-funded shelters for unaccompanied children— are assessing vacant property at Moffett to see if its facilities could be used as temporary shelters amid an influx of children and families crossing the border, NASA officials told The Chronicle last week. NASA manages the federal property.

The Bay Area may have been spoiled with several days of summer-like weather recently, but rain showers and chilly temperatures will make a comeback across the region this week, according to the National Weather Service.
The first chances of rainfall will creep in Monday morning, said Weather Service meteorologist Brayden Murdock.
“Then it starts becoming a bit more widespread as we head towards the evening,” he said. “Monday night going into Tuesday is probably going to be very consistent rain and some of our highest chances for the week.”

Health experts say CDC school reopening guidelines miss the mark

Bay Area health experts: CDC school reopening guidelines could hurt efforts to reopen classrooms

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally issued guidelines last week on how to reopen schools safely. But some Bay Area health experts are not sure that what the federal agency is recommending makes sense — or that it has students’ mental health in mind.
The CDC on Friday outlined its much-anticipated guidance for returning for K-12 students to in-person instruction in the coming year. It recommends handwashing, disinfection of school facilities, diagnostic testing and contact tracing to identify infections and separate infected people from others in a school.
