The nation s airports. homeland security has confirmed to us the tsa screeners failed 67 out of 70 00 tests carried out by special investigators known as the red team. the tests and findings first reported by abc news were designed to push the boundaries of the screening system stood up after 9/11 to prevents weapons from getting on to planes. these are covert tests and designed to be as challenging as possible. to your point, there was another recent investigation that looked at checked baggage and they also found weaknesses throughout the system. in this case they cited tech problems as well as human error. what is homeland security saying about all of this? homeland security officials would only speak on background given the sensitivity of the story and the report is still classified but emphasized this 95% failure rate does not tell the whole story. the numbers in these reports never look good out of context, but they are a critical element ....
