HOMEOWNERS and residents of Doña Juliana Subdivision in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City are opposing a cell site tower project of a telecommunications company.
In a petition signed by homeowners, they cited environmental and health concerns on the cell site tower of Dito Telecommunity, especially that the world is now under the threat of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
A homeowner in an interview with Sunstar-Bacolod said the property is owned by Barangay Kagawad Ian Ted Lacson and they were only told that he is constructing a swimming pool on his property, which used to be the only vacant lot on St. Therese Avenue, Doña Juliana Subdivision.

DICT notes increase in tower roll-outs; continues to push for telcos to improve services

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 22 (PIA) - The positive response to the Joint Memorandum circular issued, and  President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's directive  in easing up the processing requirement for the permits have resulted in an increase in the tower roll-out of telcos, said Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)  Undersecretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic in a virtual press briefing, Thursday, January 21.
He said these imply increased in the extent of coverage of the mobile operators in providing internet services. More towers mean better internet signal because internet access is dependent on the scope of the prevalence of the towers, he added.
According to Caintic, the challenge now is the fiber roll-out (land-based); thus, DICT is looking at creating an equivalent Joint Memorandum Circular for easing up and  regularizing  the permits needed because telco providers are requesting for firm guidelines,  made-easy steps for permit acquisition, cheaper and consistent requirement processing rates across all LGUs.
