Terengganu beachgoers advised to be on alert for poisonous jellyfish

KUALA TERENGGANU: Beachgoers in Terengganu are advised to be careful following the discovery of the poisonous Portuguese Man o 'War jellyfish at Pantai Kelulut and Pantai Pulau Kerengga in Marang near here yesterday evening.

Object found by woman in Marang not ambergris, says Fisheries Dept

KUALA TERENGGANU: The lumpy object found by a woman while fishing in Marang waters at the end of November was not ambergris, a digestive secretion of the sperm whale, says the Terengganu Fisheries Department.

Terengganu Fisheries Dept seizes fish traps, ray nets in marine parks


KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): The Terengganu Fisheries Department has seized several fish traps and ray nets (pukat pari) in an operation carried out around the Pulau Kapas and Pulau Redang Marine Parks.
Its director Ruzaidi Mamat said 25 enforcement officers were involved in the three-hour operation carried out by the department’s Marine Parks and Resource Management division on Tuesday (June 8).
“We managed to detect six fish traps and ray nets about 0.4 nautical miles (740m) from Pulau Kapas while two more fish traps were detected about 0.4 nautical miles from Pulau Redang.
“The use of fish traps and ray nets is an offence under Section 43 (1) (a) of the Fisheries Act 1985 for catching or attempting to catch fish in marine park areas.

Carcass of green turtle believed killed for its eggs found in Pulau Kapas

KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): The carcass of a female green turtle with slash marks was found floating in waters off Pulau Kapas, believed to have been killed by an irresponsible party who stole its eggs.
