8 Billion Angels: A "simple solution" to the climate crisis?

The documentary film
8 Billion Angels opens with majestic footage of farmers tilling the land, factories billowing smoke, traffic-choked highways, city streets teeming with people, and a voiceover by the primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall. “What I really, really, really would love to change, without causing pain or suffering: reduce the number of people on the planet,” she says, “because there’s too many of us. It’s a planet of finite resources and we’re using them up. And that’s going to cause so much suffering in the future.”
With these words, she sums up the driving argument of this grand, sweeping documentary, produced by the environmentalist Terry Spahr. The film maintains that there is a simple solution to climate change, environmental destruction and mass extinction: to protect the planet and each other, we need to have fewer children.

Earth Day is every day in Chico

Collective action and protecting the environment is what Earth Day is all about. The holiday started on April 22, 1970 and Chico State has been celebrating it since the start. The first celebration was seen as a protest but it has grown to be a joyous occasion.
“Restore our Earth” is the theme for Earth Day this year. It focuses on climate change, individual action and climate change literacy.
Chico State celebrates all Earth Day festivities: Earth Day, Earth Week and Earth Month. The university is all for sustainability and inclusiveness. Chico State has a few programs and clubs for Wildcats to get involved in sustainability efforts.

Academic contributes to documentary exploring humans’ impact on planet
A University of Plymouth researcher is among the expert commentators in a new international documentary exploring the impact of overpopulation on marine, animal and human life.
8 Billion Angels uses breath-taking photography and emotion to show how mankind’s incredible success – measured in numbers and wealth – could ultimately undo us all.
In doing so, it aims to trade political correctness for an honest assessment that makes overpopulation understandable and personal by focusing as much on human emotions as scientific facts.
With commentary from a selection of world-leading experts, including Professor of Marine Biology Jason Hall-Spencer, the film tells the stories of individuals around the world impacted by overpopulation.
